Natural stone is an investment that will give you many years of satisfaction. Stone is a natural material. Simple care and maintenance will help maintain its original appearance. Here are some recommendations for routine care and cleaning
Care & Precautions
Mees Tile and Marble will seal your stone counter tops or floors yearly at your request. We also offer all the products to maintain the lasting beauty of all tile and stone products.
Cleaning Procedures & Recommendations
Dust mop interior floors frequently using clean, non-treated dry dust mop. Sand dirt and grit do the most damage to natural stone surfaces due to their abrasiveness. Mats or area rugs inside and outside and entrance will help to minimize the sand, dirt, and grit that will scratch the stone floor. Be sure that the underside of the mat or rug is a non-slop surface. Normally, it will take a person about eight steps on a floor surface to remove sand or dirt from the bottom of their shoes.
Do not use vacuum cleaners with worn wheels and attachments. The metal or plastic attachments or the wheels may scratch the surface.
Use mild liquid dishwashing detergents to clean stone, and do not use scouring powders or creams. We recommend periodic cleaning using Miracle Sealants Tile & Stone Cleaner. Rinse the surface thoroughly after washing with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. Change the rinse water frequently.
Clean stone surfaces with a neutral pH cleaner such as Miracle Sealants Tile & Stone Cleaner as directed. For counters and vanities use Miracle Sealants Counter Kleen or Miracle Sealants 511 Kleen & Reseal. Too much cleaner may leave a film and cause streaks. Do not use products that contain lemon, vinegar, acids or other household cleaning products on marble, limestone or granite. Do not use scouring powders or creams; these products contain abrasives that may scratch the surface. Miracle Sealants 511 Impregnator, 511 Porous Plus or 511 Seal & Enhance should be applied to minimize the possibility of staining.
BATH AND OTHER WET AREAS
In the bath or other wet areas, soap scum can be minimized by using a squeegee after each use. To remove soap scum, use Miracle Sealants Tile & Stone Cleaner or Liquid Poultice.
VANITY TOP SURFACES
Vanity tops must have a penetrating sealer applied. Miracle Sealants 511 Impregnator, 511 Porous Plus or 511 Seal & Enhancecan be used. Miracle Sealants Stone Polish can also be applied to marble and buffed to minimize water spotting.
FOOD PREPARATION AREAS
In food preparation areas, the stone will need to have a penetrating sealer applied. 511 Impregnator, 511 Porous Plus or 511 Seal & Enhance resists both oil and water-based stains and is non-toxic/safe for use on food preparation surfaces. Miracle Sealants Stone Polish can also be applied to minimize water spotting.
HONED OR TUMBLED FINISHES
Slate or honed/tumbled marble and limestone should be sealed. Miracle Sealants 511 Seal & Enhanceis formulated to seal and enhance the color of unpolished natural stone. However, either Miracle Sealants 511 Impregnator or 511 Porous Pluscan be used without altering the color.
OUTDOOR POOL & PATIO AREAS
In outdoor pool, patio or hot tub areas, flush with clear water and use a Miracle Sealants Tile & Stone Cleaner or Liquid Poultice to remove algae or moss.
RESTORATION OF POLISHED MARBLE
Worn and etched areas can be revitalized by using mild polishing compounds like Miracle Sealants Mira Honeand/or Mira Dust. Miracle Sealants Marble Conditioner can be used to remove light surface scratches, etch marks and maintain polish with floor buffer. Please note that extensive restoration requires a skilled professional. Mees Tileand Marble offers restoration services.
Deep set oil & grease stains can be removed from most natural stone by using Miracle Sealants Poultice Plus. Poultice Plus is a fine, non-acidic, absorptive clay that will not etch the surface of the stone. It can also be used as a mildly abrasive polish. Refer to the Miracle Sealants Stain Removal Guide for specific instruction and suggestions. Many oil and grease stains will dissipate over time.
